Fashion!

Click it for a bigger version.
It folds up to make a shopping bag with 4 sides, hence the weird spacing. It is supposed to be for Barney's. In the final, I cut out little bits of their clothing and I made some patterned tissue paper that goes behind. It's pretty cute.

Villains!

Hey lovelies. The opening for the Villain Show at Sleeping Giant Gallery was last night, and I must say it was a fantastic time. The turnout was awesome, so thanks to everyone who came out! I really appreciate it.

Here are the pieces:

Here be Jareth the Goblin King, from the Labyrinth. Excuse to paint David Bowie? Maybe. But David Bowie is fantastic, as is this movie. This piece sold!

This is Hexxus from Ferngully (you know, the movie with the fairies who have to save the rainforest from the foresters...) Pretty much a piece of my childhood.

This is Krang from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Totally a kickass villain. The scan is really bad, but oh wellz.

This is Staypuft from Ghostbusters. I know, he wasn't REALLY a villain, but I got way too excited about painting him to really care. I love this one.

Ghost Bees

This portrait was used for a mock show poster, but I took out all the information in favour of making it just a nice illustration. It's of the lovely twin folk duo, Ghost Bees. They make really delightful music and I definitely think you should take a listen. Here is their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/ghostbees

The Villain Show

I'm going to be participating in this awesome show at the Sleeping Giant Gallery in a couple weeks. The theme is villains (as you can see) and there are a whole bunch of really great up-and-coming artists participating in it. The above poster was done by one of the artists, Laura Harte.

Show opens on November 20th, it's going to be on for a week, but if you come on opening night all the artists will be there and I promise it's going to be a crazy fun time. COME COME COME!

Leonard Cohen

Based on a review of his 'Live in London' CD which mentioned that Cohen has the ability to make a giant ampitheatre feel like an intimate experience. Image did get tweaked a bit before print.

this thanksgiving

Me and my sister decided to make some fudge, you know, in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Actually, it was mostly because we wanted to order some delicious looking fudge off of etsy, but it was really expensive and this seemed like a cheaper (slash more immediate) solution.

If You Live Near Bloor/Lansdowne

Check out the Starving Artist, it's a really rad place with a deliciously waffle-themed menu.

Oh yeah, and I'm gonna have some art there soon.

On another note, I went to the Kozyndan opening at Narwhal here in Toronto last night. It was for the release of their Unknown Portraits book (which I bought). Kozy was drawing portraits in the inside covers. She drew me as a cat, and I was pretty delighted because none of the other ones I saw seemed quite as special. Also, Dan drew a couple bunnies beside the frame. I was giddy.

Sketches

Hello friends!
Here are some scans from my sketchbook. They are all from September, except the pencil shaded one which is from sitting in the park in the summertime.

CMYK

Remember this piece? I did it for an article about the favelas in Rio, and the organization "Afro Reggae" which aims to get the youth involved in art and music as opposed to violence and crime.

Well guess what! This piece is going to be published in CMYK Magazine! It'll be in issue #45, which will hit news stands in November. Woo!

Wilderness of Manitoba

Hey folks!

So the Wilderness of Manitoba show was this evening, and I heard it was absolutely fantastic (woe is me, I didn't make it until after they played). However (!) they definitely had some really lovely prints of my poster for sale, and I must say, they printed beautifully! I was pretty excited, and I got lots of kind words from people who liked my art. I also picked up one of the Wilderness of Manitoba's EPs, which are . They have a little version of my poster inside, all nice and colour printed (I definitely thought they would be b/w!) I thoroughly recommend all you Toronto folk come out to their CD release on the 21st of August!

That is all! Sorry, no art!

Vday

This is a poster for VDAY.

I don't know why I take it upon myself to sew things, it is such a task. The strangest thing is that this is my second time sewing something, and my second time sewing a human uterus. Hmm.

I am planning on hand-stitching the type, but I made this in case I don't have time.

Kitten Boy

I was horribly bored during lecture today, so I decided to waste some time on oekaki.  Seems to be the only time I oekaki these days... that says something about the course.  If you don't know what oekaki is, look it up on wikipedia.

Sometimes when I have really lazy days, I feel the need to do something to feel better about myself.

OEKAKI TO THE RESCUE.
